Disconnected: What's Up With That?

Hello, again.

Before you begin- trust me, I know. I can already hear the argument I'm having with some of you:

You: Deb, where have you been? Dropped one post and left for half a year?
Me: I know. I see how I hurt you. I'm sorry.
You: Well, sorry is not good enough, ma'am. You have some nerve showing your face around here. We were counting on you!
Me: I know, I know. I needed some growing time.  It's okay, sha. I am back now! Now, let's talk. I have so much to say.
So, officially, I would like to apologize. Not only to you guys but to myself. When I started this blog, I really wanted to pursue it. I wanted to realize a dream that was placed on my heart years ago. Then, of course, somewhere in the hustle and bustle of mission trips, spring semester, and personal life, I became disconnected. What's up with that? What does it mean? Well, I will definitely going into it in depth in my upcoming posts as I reflect on my freshman year at university. But for today,  it feels like we are old friends reconnecting so, let's keep it light!

First and foremost, I want to heavily emphasize the most important thing I learned my freshman year, and more specifically, my second semester in which I became disconnected. Simply put, I learned that if I don't have Jesus, I don't have nothin'! Really, guys. My faith as a Christian was heavily tested this year. At times, I felt like I had failed but overall it is safe to say that once a child of God, always a child of God. He is so good to us, y'all! It is crucial to remember who you are, who/where you came from, and what makes you your best self. Going to college and being surrounded by so many personalities and opinions was something I really thought I was ready for. Turns out, it was much more complicated than I thought. The truth is, if we don't allow God to teach us how to think, the world will. My spirit was naturally looking for direction and principles on how to live my life. But without the Word of God, I was subconsciously picking up everything I heard in class, discussions with peers, social media, and the world around me at large. I was internalizing all of those opinions and perspectives; some of which didn't line up with His Word at all.  I missed multiple bible study times. I wasn't sinking my teeth into The Word everyday and I indeed had to suffer the consequences. Thank God for His grace and transformation, though! 🙌

Our minds and thinking are crucial to our success in lives and our overall sense of fulfillment. Our thoughts will affect the decisions we make and paths we take. Make sure Jesus is at the center of your thoughts. Stay connected to His Spirit and His Word. They are there for a reason! To secure and preserve your life in Him. It is vital. Learn from my mistakes. Having God is more than just a religion or a great way to keep faith in the hardships of life. Having God is literally the purpose of our existence as children of God.

So, welcome back to the party, you all. Grab anything from a tea to a martini, find a comfy spot, and let's engage in conversation together.

Here's to staying connected to His Spirit and His Word and to being rooted in Christ! What are some things you do to stay connected and engaged?
