Disclaimer: This post is a couple of days late and for that, I apologize. I had some trouble trying to fully capture what it is I wanted to talk about concerning this topic. I still don’t think I have captured what I’m feeling in today’s writing. It’s very much a train of thought piece. Nevertheless, here it is.
Today’s political climate is extremely toxic. The Lord knows what’s going on. In the midst of everything, at times it is easy to fall into a place where things seem hopeless. It’s not hard to feel afraid or anxious among the craziness of it all.
I have definitely played the victim to this vicious cycle before. Today, I want to talk about finding peace in an unpleasant world. I’m not going to give you a step-by-step because: 1) I do not have all of the answers and 2) it is just not that easy. Nevertheless, I think that there is much to explore here.
Peace sometimes feels like it exists in a world separate from ours. With all the turmoil and unrest in the world, it’s easy to become disheartened by news in the media. It seems impossible for peace to really exist on a widescale here on Earth. I won’t lie, I can be a realist when it comes to things like this. I don’t believe that “world peace on Earth” will ever be a thing, although it is lovely to dream about. Nevertheless, I don’t know about you, but I need hope. I need to not feel like life here on Earth is completely negative. That’s not living.
I’ve already mentioned that I don’t have all of the answers. So, I will give you all my take on finding peace in an unpleasant world and then, I would like to hear what you guys come up with in the comments.
I think that maybe we try to take on too many issues at once. Especially world-scale ones. There are so many things to be passionate about and fight for that it’s not possible to be at the forefront of every battle. It is also not possible to solve the world’s problems simply by worrying about them. Without sounding harsh or disconnected, I think that the best way to find peace in a world like this one is to find peace on a smaller scale, first. Start with the issues in your personal life, then home, and then community first. I guess, it would be like a wild fire effect. Even more so, finding peace in Christ is honestly where the answers are hidden, I believe.
So what do we do about these hot- button issues? Of course, we can’t solve all of the problems; we know that and the reality of that is probably what hurts us even more. Stay tuned in a few weeks for a follow-up to this post: What is the duty of the body of Christ in this world?
