Remember in primary school when we had “Career Day”? My favorite part was spending hours each night leading up to the big day to choose the perfect outfit that would truly exemplify everything I wanted to be when I got older. Over the years, I was pretty consistent in gleaning my inspiration from Judge Judy. I would dress up in my mom's old graduation gown with my plastic toy gavel in tow, ready to channel my inner "Her Honor".
The main point of Career Day was to help us kiddos pour over and personify the mannerisms of the people we hoped to be in the future. By dressing like a judge, doctor, teacher, princess, or superhero, we each felt that much closer to our dreams every time we looked in the mirror. As we walked through the school halls, we felt empowered and hopeful in the path that we wanted to take.
Flash forward to young adulthood and this is still proves to be a powerful tactic: dress like the person you want to be. You know how people say "look good, feel good, do good"? It's a major piece of advice. The way in which you present yourself is so important. As superficial as it is, we are all judged by our looks; it's the easiest piece of information to get about someone. When you dress, adorn yourself with items that reflect who you are and how you demand to be treated. It's not about how expensive your attire is or what name is written on the label. It's about how you feel and the message you project through your appearance. Furthermore, taking care of yourself and maintaining your body is a no-brainer. Our bodies are temples and they are the home our hearts live in. Treat your outward man with love and respect. Fill it with nutritious goods and adorn it with what makes it look the best.
Here's a side note, though: appearances are not everything. No matter how great you look on the outside, if your heart and mind aren't in the right place, the energy of your spirit will seep through the outer appearance. Make sure that everything is taken care of on the inside. I think that working on your physical and spiritual self is a process that goes hand-in-hand.
