It's Time to Take the Next Step

Today's entry is what I hope will be an honest dialogue.

Do you ever just get a little fed up with where you are in your spiritual life? Have you ever felt like you've gotten to the edge of the vast ocean; able to see and feel the life within the various blue-toned waves oscillating in harmony, creating one song; yet were unable to step out into your little boat to explore its great depth?

It might be a sign that it's time to buckle down and grow. The Holy Spirit is delicate, yet powerful. When you come to possess and be possessed by God's Spirit, it is time to take life seriously. Reading the Word, praying, fasting, engaging in His church, alms-giving, etc is a part of daily life. They become a part of the way in which you live your life with the utmost efficiency and purpose.

If you're feeling like your relationship with God is great but for reasons that you cannot quite explain, you sense that you need  more of Him; it's time to go into over-drive. Push into the presence of God more. Utilize every minute of your day to worship and communicate with Him. Set aside serious chunks of time to put Him first and make Him your only present priority. I'm sure this can make many of us hesitant. I, for example, begin to think of the overwhelming school deadlines and daunting, over-complicated examinations that I need to tend to. Trust me, I get it. Nevertheless, the Bible says33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33). Even with the reassurance of the Bible, I still personally will find it difficult to dedicate chunks of time to the Lord. Now, don't get me wrong; God has given all of us jobs and responsibilities that we must tend to everyday. Being over-religious and abandoning our work in the name of religion is not the goal. The goal is to make time for who/what needs it. Make time for God's Kingdom and the desires of your heart will be made a priority, as well.

So, do not neglect the tug on your heart, telling you to push more into the Lord. Yield to it and ask the Spirit of God to guide and keep you as you make conscious efforts to make God a major priority. Push into His presence in the same way you might push into your schoolbooks during final exam season: with purpose, intent, and little time to spare.
